Spring to Virginia

April 10-18 2010

Get into gear for your 2010 season! "Spring to Virginia" is just around the corner and is a great way to get an early start on the cycling season after a winter of unusual weather!  Following our Virginia OBC trips of recent years, we will visit the two most popular locations: Lexington, Virginia and Westminster Maryland. Application forms are available for OBC members with a valid Bulletin Board account in the OBC members zone .

Cycling is what it's all about with food and company coming in a close second and third.  The cycling is terrific on quiet, well surfaced roads with a variety of terrains.  There's something for everyone. Perhaps the cycling is even better than that in Vermont.  If that's not enough, we will stay at locations that offer abundant alternatives for those who don't want to cycle every day - from hiking (we will be very close to the Appalachian Trail) to sight seeing.

The dates for this year's tour are April 10th to April 18th split between two locations separated with a 4 hour drive.  The locations offer routes for a wide variety of cycling abilities - from gently rolling hills to steeper climbs and long hills. We will be cycling in Virginia, and Maryland!

This year we will have the longest drive on the first day, ending at the Sheridan in Lexington, Virginia. Lexington is a small university town with many shops and interesting museums. Lexington also has the best cycling in Virginia because it is located smack in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley.  Cycle the Blueridge and climb the steepest pass on the TransAmerica or head south down a meandering creek valley to re-discover

'Natural Bridge'.  Amazingly you can venture in any direction on bike from Lexington into superb cycling terrain!  We will stay in Lexington five nights and all dinners (cost not included) will be at restaurants within a 15 minute walk from the Inn.  On April 14th we will move northward into Westminster Maryland with an optional short cycle midway.   Our stay will be at in the heath of this small town.  We will cycle through rolling hills laden with cherry blossoms and farmland and not to be missed great cycling.

Cost:

Cost includes 8 nights and Cyclists friendly breakfasts.

In Lexington, we will make a reservation for the group at a restaurant, but you are responsible for the cost.  You are on your own for all lunches. Please see the application form for details and options.
