The Prince Edward County (PEC) wine and ride tour
As with the inaugural tour in 2011, we will be staying at the Jackson Falls School House for a weekend of riding, and enjoying the culinary delights of this picturesque part of Ontario. The rides will vary from less than 100K to the longer distance 160K (for those of you are going to bypass the vineyards). A light dinner will be offered for the Friday night and a fully catered meal with wine pairings for the Saturday evening - wine will be available but if your taste runs to beer or spirits, remember to BYOB as this is a B&B. This tour has a current limit of 20 spaces based on double occupancy, however several of the rooms can accommodate three if you have a group.
The roads in the area are fairly flat with rolling hills a terrific views of Lake Ontario and as we found last year, it can get a little windy. The PEC area is renowned for the organic and heritage vegetables available as well as cheese production and of course the vineyards and cider houses. The locals are relaxed and cycling is very common throughout the island, think more of Vermont less of downtown Ottawa, with plenty of smaller roads and villages (complete with bakeries) along our routes. This is the same touring location used by Les Humphries with the ABC spring Picton Tour and we will be following many of his touring maps.
This tour sold out very quickly last year and I expect that we will run out of spaces in a short time, so I have asked the Inn Keeper to look at other accommodation options for those who are unable to stay at the Schoolhouse.
Cost $195 per person (based on double occupancy)
