Time Trials during parkway construction
Starting July 7th (and continuing for 6 weeks, into August)
Parking for riders: At the Aviation Museum. Registration will NOT be in the parking lot. There are a number of ways to get to the Registration (meeting point in the map) - we might be able to ride on the road, but don't count on it!
Please leave enough time to get from the parking to the registration (give yourself 10 minutes)
Parking for volunteers
Around Delong Dr and Kaymar Dr - marked at "Meeting point" on the map. There is very limited parking here, so if you are a rider, don't take a spot from a volunteer.
Registration and Number Distribution: at the Meeting point, same times as usual (betwen 5:50 and 6:10 for the WTT)
First rider off at 6:30
Meeting point (registration, number distribution and results)
North east end of Kaymar Drive, facing the parkway. There's an access path to the parkway here. Please respect the residents. There is a little more on street parking here, but DO NOT block driveways!
Start and Finish
Opposite the parking lot (P7?) that the WTT. In line with the Karson Konstruction sign (the thanks for not driving like a maniac sign). Start and finish line will be marked when (if???) we get a little bit of dry pavement.
I'll mark these with a white line and "OTT"
Turn around
About 30m closer than current - at the first light standard as you approach St. Joseph. Before the barriers!!!
Again, I'll mark this with a while line and "OTT TA"
Distance
Last night, my measurement gave me a distance between 10.7 and 10.8 km. I'll re-measure after marking the start, turn, and finish..
Results: To keep things simple for the people at the start and finish, results will be given at the same place as registration.
Notes
The road is not closed to construction traffic. Construction traffic has absolute right of way. Riders impeding construction traffic will be DQ'd.
Please ride smart. We've been doing this well so far this year. Lets keep the streak going.
Technically, the NCC is closing the parkway to all non-construction traffic after 6pm. This includes bicycles. Indications are that they will look the other way (i.e. the RCMP won't be out patrolling this stretch of good road for cyclists on strange bikes). Whether the NCC can or can't close the road is a technicality. The NCC is the land owner; for the OBC to run organized events (under insurance), we need to have their permission. Anything that is remotely seen as interfering with their construction will make it more difficult for us in the future.
Hopefully, the six weeks will pass quickly, and we'll be back to the regular 15 km course to finish out the year. How fast will we go with fresh pavement on the complete course????
See you all on the road,
Peter Tregunno
