Participation Rules

As we have all learned, insurance has become a big part of organizing cycling events and members need to understand that they will not be able to participate in club events unless they can demonstrate that they are members in good standing at the time of the event.

Insurance requirements have for several years forced the OBC to adopt the following participation rules for the club's Time Trial Series. OBC members can ride for free as usual. However, there is no trial period for non-members.

Before you can ride an time trial, you must provide proof that you are EITHER:

a) a member of the OBC or

b) a member of another club affiliated with the Ontario Cycling Association.

Non-OBC club members must have a copy of their OCA insurance card in order to ride.

Unfortunately, because Quebec does not use the same insurance policy as the OCA, this means that members of Quebec-affiliated clubs will have to join an Ontario club if they wish to participate. Naturally, we hope that club will be the OBC.

Holders of an OCA insurance certificate who choose NOT to join the OBC must pay a $30 fee to participate. As in recent years, there is no per/ride option. This decision was made to reduce the administrative work that organizers have to perform at each event.

New members are especially welcome. No one should feel intimidated to come out and enjoy a very sociable occasion as well as a real cycling challenge.

The course itself is 15 km out-and-back and follows the Eastern Parkway from near the Aviation Museum to the turnaround near Montreal Rd and finishes just opposite the start line.

Parking and registration are in the Aviation Museum parking lot
