vol-un-teer - noun
1. a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking.
2. a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.
Yes, volunteers are the life blood of the Ottawa Bicycle Club. It could not operate without them and they have always come through. About eighty persons will be needed for the upcoming Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour, June 5 & 6, most of them in Ottawa for a few hours, others in Perth, Kingston and en route.
Stepping in to help run an event such as the RLCT is a great way to get acquainted with the club for new members and to renew old friendships for returning members. It's also a perfect opportunity to introduce spouses, friends and colleagues to a colourful new group of people if not already familiar with the world of cycling.
The duties are varied, some short and easy, others more demanding. They include:
Ottawa
greeters
check out/in
parking/traffic control
vehicles pickup/return
close down
Perth
Registrar
check out/in
parking/traffic control
juice/water personnel
luggage truck driver/assistant
Kingston
Registrar
check in/out
first aid provider
t-shirts/merchandise coordinator
En route
support vehicles drivers
route signs personnel
All expenses incurred for out of town travel are re-imbursed and accommodation/meals provided.
Please consider joining our volunteer family for another great Tour this June. For more information or to sign up, contact me or Rosmarie at the Club Office.
Thank you.
