Call for Volunteers - RLCT 2009

vol-un-teer, noun:

  1. a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking.
  2. a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.

Yes, volunteers are the life blood of the Ottawa Bicycle Club. It could not operate without them and they have always come through; there has not been a single event in recent times that had to be cancelled because of a lack of persons willing to help. And help we'll need again with the coming Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour, June 6 & 7; about seventy helpful persons to be more exact! Most will be needed in Ottawa for a few hours, others in Perth, Kingston and anywhere in between en route.

Stepping in to help run an event such as the RLCT is a great way to get acquainted with the club for new members and to renew old friendships for returning members. It's also a perfect opportunity to introduce spouses, friends and colleagues to a colourful new group of people if not already familiar with the world of cycling.

The duties are varied, some short and easy, others more demanding. They include registrations, greeting, vehicle pickup/return, support drivers, route signage, parking control, first aid, juice/water dispensing and luggage transport. All expenses incurred for out of town travel are reimbursed.

Please consider joining our volunteer family for another great Tour this June. For more information or to sign up, contact me or Rosmarie at the Club Office.

Thank you.
