13e Grand Prix annuel du Ottawa Bicycle Club
Regrettably, I have to announce the cancellation of the 2011 Ottawa Bicycle Club Grand Prix, which was scheduled for July 16, 2011. The cancellation is due to construction to repair a road collapse approximately 1.5 km from the start/finish area.
Since we can't run the Grand Prix this year, but we still have a climber's race in the park!
18.2 km Individual TT - Start at the Gamelin Gate, Finish at Champlain Lookout
Open to OCA club members and Canadian Cycling Association UCI license holders.
Registration from 7:00 am to 8:30 am in the Asticu parking lot. First rider off at 9:15 am.
Cost: $5 for OBC members, $10 for everyone else
Course Description:
An 18.2 km net uphill individual time trial with two major climbs - Pink Lake and King Mountain. Start at the south entrance of the Gatineau park (Gamelin Gate), north on the Gatineau Parkway to the Champlain Parkway. Riders turn left onto the Champlain Parkway where the rollers start. Cross through the Fortune Parkway intersection at 2.5 km to go. The finish line will be at the entrance of the Champlain Lookout Parking lot.
Rules:
- The parkways will be open to traffic. Riders are reminded that while racing, the rules of the road still do apply.
- The parking lots will have cars coming and going. Take care and use your eyes around entrances.
- The Gatineau parkway north of the Champlain parkway will be closed for another event. Watch out for people entering/exiting at this point.
- For the left turn onto the Champlain parkway, riders must use the left turn lane, and must not cut the corner.
- Any bike legal for a time trial can be used. We are not restricting bike or wheel choice. Given the amount of climbing, a road bike might be a good choice.
- Parking and registration is in the Asticu parking lot. No racer parking in the Gamelin parking lot. Ride to the start via the pathway or the road.
- Take care for animals and mountain bikes - both might cross the road without warning!
- This is an individual time trial - no drafting!
- Please ride respectfully back to the start. Remember that you are traffic! Results will be given at the start line after the finish line crew get back after the last finisher.
- If you need to abandon, please come to the start area, so that we don't have to go looking for you!
